Rama Seeks Directors’ Resignations, Administrative Shake-Up Amid Protests in Tirana

A major shake-up in the administration is being reported at the height of political tension and protests in Tirana. According to published information, Prime Minister Edi Rama has asked ministers to begin removing the heads of institutions under their authority, a step that raises questions not only about the real reasons behind this action, but also about how the administration is used whenever public pressure on the government increases.

Request for irrevocable resignations

According to sources cited by Top Channel, Rama contacted ministers from Budva and asked them to gather the heads of subordinate institutions in order to request their irrevocable resignations.

If this move is officially confirmed, it would amount to a broad intervention at the leadership levels of the administration, at a politically sensitive moment for the majority.

The timing of the decision raises political questions

It is reported that the decision is expected to be communicated publicly by the prime minister himself in the coming days. So far, there has been no official clarification as to whether this initiative is linked to an effort to reduce the anger of protesters, or to some other political calculation.

The fact that the measure comes while the government is facing protests in the capital makes it difficult to avoid the suspicion that the administration is once again being turned into an instrument of political reaction, rather than the subject of a clear and measurable reform.

Rama had warned of action against the administration

In his recent public appearances, Rama has used harsh language toward the administration, placing emphasis on delays, failure to respect deadlines, and the lack of responses to citizens.

A week earlier, he warned of measures against officials who, according to the official version, do not respect deadlines for handling citizens’ requests and problems.

The government’s argument: deadlines and responsibility

In a public statement, Rama said that delays must carry a cost for those responsible and linked this to what he called the “Mirror Law.” According to him, every missed deadline must have someone responsible, and that person must bear the cost.

However, it remains unclear so far whether the wave of resignations is based on a documented evaluation process, on concrete individual responsibilities, or on centralized political decision-making from above.

In the absence of a detailed official announcement, it remains to be seen whether this is a real administrative reform or a purge dictated by the political climate of the moment.

For the public, the essential issue is not only who is leaving, but by what standard, with what responsibility, and in whose interest the state administration is once again being moved.
