A 47-year-old man wanted over a shooting and vehicle theft in Sanxhak, Lezha, was detained at Rinas as he was attempting to leave the country. According to police, the Lezha Court had previously imposed the security measure of “prison arrest” against him.
Detention at the Rinas border crossing
The official version says the 47-year-old, identified by the initials K. N., was caught by Border Police officers at the Rinas border crossing point, after coordination with serious crimes investigation structures and the Kurbin Police Commissariat.
Authorities said he was attempting to leave the Republic of Albania, while being listed as a wanted person in connection with an incident that took place several months earlier in Sanxhak.
What the 47-year-old is accused of
According to the investigative file, the incident is linked to July, when after a conflict described by police as involving “weak motives,” the 47-year-old is suspected of having wounded citizen V. P., 22, with a firearm.
In the same incident, he also faces the accusation of stealing the young man’s vehicle. At this stage, these remain allegations raised by the investigative bodies and supported by the security measure issued by the court.
Security measure and criminal offenses
The Lezha Court had ordered the measure of “prison arrest” in August for Klodian Ndoj, 47, a resident of the village of Sanxhak.
According to authorities, he is accused of the criminal offenses of “Intentional serious injury,” “Theft,” and “Unauthorized possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition.”
Case referred to the Prosecutor’s Office
Following the detention at Rinas, the procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
It remains to be seen what will be proven as the investigation continues and whether the accusations raised by police will be fully supported in judicial proceedings.
The incident brings renewed attention to weaknesses in monitoring wanted persons, especially when the detention comes only at the moment of an attempt to leave the country.
In this case, so far authorities have made public only their version of the conflict, the shooting and the theft of the vehicle.
