An apartment in Lezhë was engulfed in flames on Thursday afternoon, while the police’s preliminary version links the incident to a cigarette left burning by the owner of the home. Material damage was reported from the fire, while several residents of the building showed signs of smoke inhalation.
The incident in the “Skënderbeg” neighborhood
According to police, the fire broke out on November 7, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m., in the “Skënderbeg” neighborhood of Lezhë, at the home of a citizen with the initials A. L.
In its preliminary statement, police said the flames are suspected to have been caused by a cigarette left burning by the owner of the apartment. The full circumstances remain under verification.
Material damage and evacuation of residents
The fire caused material damage to the apartment, while the flames were extinguished by fire services.
Police and firefighters evacuated residents from the building, in an intervention that, according to the official version, prevented other more serious consequences.
Several residents taken to hospital after smoke exposure
Because of the smoke, several residents of the building showed signs of asphyxiation and were taken to the Lezhë Regional Hospital.
According to police, they are receiving medical assistance and are out of danger for their lives.
Owner escorted to police station, investigation continues
The owner of the home, the citizen A. L., was escorted to the Lezhë Police Station, where procedural actions are being carried out.
The investigative group is continuing its work to document the incident and fully clarify the circumstances of the fire.
