The Democratic Party has moved its protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, after supporters marched from the party’s blue headquarters in Tirana. Opposition MPs were seen at the head of the group, while the absence of Sali Berisha immediately stands out at a rally he himself had publicly called for several days earlier.

March from the blue headquarters to the Prime Minister’s Office

Supporters of the Democratic Party initially gathered at the blue headquarters and then marched toward the Prime Minister’s Office, where the rally is scheduled to be held.

At the time of reporting, the protesters had positioned themselves in front of the institution, at one of the government’s most sensitive political and symbolic locations.

MPs on the front line, Berisha does not appear

At the head of the march are Democratic Party MPs Flamur Noka, Agron Gjekmarkaj, Elda Hoti and Tedi Blushi.

Meanwhile, PD leader Sali Berisha is absent from the protest, even though he was the one who had announced it and called for this public mobilization.

Rally without tensions, police positioned near the building

So far, the protest is taking place without tensions, while police forces have been deployed in the area of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The police presence near the government building remains a routine part of the security plan at such gatherings, especially when a protest approaches central institutions directly.

PD’s political call and the link to youth protests

According to the position made public earlier by Berisha, Saturday’s protest was called in support of the university students and high school students who have been involved in protests for days.

Berisha has presented this movement as a confrontation with the Rama government and has called for broader civic participation beyond the PD electorate. His absence on the ground, however, leaves room for political questions about how the opposition is being managed at a moment it aims to present itself as a broad public mobilization.

The protest continues in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, with PD MPs on the front line and an increased police presence in the area.

Politically, the weight of the rally is measured not only by participation, but also by the contrast between the opposition’s strong call and the absence of its leader in the square.
