After the reported clashes during the protest in Tirana, Socialist Party MP Ulsi Manja chose political irony, publicly commenting on the conflict between protesters and supporters of the Democratic Party. His reaction comes at a time when the confrontations on the ground are raising questions not only about the organization of the rally, but also about the way a protest intended to deliver a political message is being managed.

Ulsi Manja mocks clashes at the protest: 'Divide the squares, you're becoming the laughingstock of the world'

Manja’s reaction after tensions at the protest

Ulsi Manja, a Socialist Party MP and chairman of the Laws Committee, reacted on social media after clashes were recorded between protesters and Democratic Party supporters during today’s protest in the capital.

Instead of an institutional comment or a call for calm, Manja chose an ironic tone, using the situation to publicly target the sides involved in the conflict.

The proposal to divide the spaces

According to the version made public by the Socialist MP himself, he had given this advice earlier, on July 18. Manja proposes that the protesters and the Democrats divide the spaces where they hold their gatherings, in order to avoid clashes between them.

In his post, he suggests that one side remain in Skanderbeg Square, the other on the Boulevard, while Mother Teresa Square should be left as a neutral zone.

The ironic message: “You’re making us the laughingstock of the world”

In his reaction, Manja presents the conflict between the sides as a politically damaging spectacle and publicly embarrassing. He urges them to implement the proposed division, stressing that the clashes are turning the protest into an object of ridicule.

“Divide the squares, because I gave you this advice back on July 18! One side should take Skanderbeg Square, the other the Boulevard, while leave Mother Teresa Square as a neutral zone! Do it, because you still have time! Because not only can’t you agree with each other, but you’re also making us the laughingstock of the world with this protest! And don’t say afterward that I didn’t tell you so!” he wrote.

Political clashes over a tense protest

Manja’s reaction shifts attention away from the reasons for the protest itself to the chaos among the groups on the ground, turning the episode into a routine political clash between the majority and the opposition.

What remains clear is that the tensions during the protest are immediately being used for political consumption, while the incidents between protesters and Democratic Party supporters have opened a new debate over control, representation, and the seriousness of the organization in the square.

For the moment, the strongest public reaction from the Socialist camp has come in the form of irony, not an institutional position on the tensions recorded at the protest.

Politically, the episode adds yet another layer of confrontation between the sides, in a climate that appears increasingly less controlled.
