A fire that broke out on the mountain of Vajkal village, in Bulqizë, has led to the identification of a suspected perpetrator, according to the police’s official version. The case concerns a 49-year-old man, against whom criminal proceedings have been initiated while he remains free.

The police’s official version of the incident
Bulqizë police said that after being alerted to the fire on the mountain of Vajkal village, in the Fushë-Bulqizë Administrative Unit, police services went to the scene to support firefighting forces and carry out the initial investigative actions.
According to police, checks carried out made it possible to identify the suspected perpetrator of the arson. The institution did not provide further details on the specific circumstances in which the flames started, beyond saying that the investigation was aimed at clarifying responsibility.
Who is the person under investigation
The suspect is citizen A. M., 49, a resident of Vajkal village. The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecution, and criminal proceedings have been initiated against him while he remains free.
According to police, the 49-year-old suffers from mental health problems. For this reason, he was sent to the Shkodra Psychiatric Hospital for specialized treatment.

The official statement speaks of the identification of the suspected perpetrator, but it still does not clarify the specific cause of the arson or the extent of the damage caused in the area.

Police appeal after the case
After the incident, the Dibër Local Police Directorate called on citizens not to light fires to burn waste, grass or for other purposes, warning that the spread of flames can have consequences for life, property and the environment.
Police also asked that any case of arson or illegality be reported to 112.
