A suspected explosion of a gas cylinder at a home in the village of Markatomaj in Lezhë left six people injured, including two children. The Police’s preliminary version says the incident was recorded at around 20:30, while the causes remain under verification.
Police speak of a suspected gas cylinder explosion
According to Police, the explosion happened at a home owned by a citizen identified by the initials S. K., 40, in the village of Markatomaj, Lezhë.
At this stage, the authorities have not given a final conclusion on the cause, but have treated the incident as a suspected gas cylinder explosion.
Two minors among the injured
Two children, aged 10 and 13, were injured in the explosion, along with the homeowner, 40-year-old S. K.
Also injured were three women aged 64, 70 and 58, identified by police with the initials L. U., L. B. and V. Gj.
One injured person was sent to Tirana
The injured were initially transported to the Lezhë Regional Hospital with the help of Police services, according to the official statement.
Later, the homeowner was sent to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana for more specialized treatment, while the other five injured people are receiving medical care in Lezhë.
The investigation remains open
Police say the other injured persons are out of danger for their lives.
The investigative group is at the scene and is working to document the case and clarify the full circumstances of the explosion. So far, there is no other official information on the dynamics of the incident.
The incident again raises questions about safety in the use of gas cylinders in homes, while a full clarification of the circumstances remains in the hands of the investigation.
