The 95th protest against the government was held this Wednesday outside the Prime Minister’s Office, in a climate of heightened tension following clashes a day earlier between demonstrators and the State Police. After gathering outside the building, the protesters continued marching through Tirana and stopped at the Security Block, where they demanded the release of the people who had been taken in.
The next rally after a night of tensions
The protest comes just one day after the 94th rally, which was marked by tensions and clashes with police. Against this backdrop, the latest appearance outside the Prime Minister’s Office took on an even more defiant tone toward the government and law enforcement institutions.
The political demand of the protest remains the departure of the Rama government, while the rhetoric used by participants has hardened after the latest events on the ground.
March toward the Security Block
After remaining outside the Prime Minister’s Office, the protesters marched through the streets of Tirana and then gathered near the Security Block on “Mine Peza” Street. There, according to the protesters’ version, the people taken in by police during the clashes a day earlier are being held.
Near the premises of this institution, the demonstrators demanded the release of those taken in and shouted slogans against the government and the police.
Warning for September 7
One of the protesters said that what happened at the previous protest was only a warning. According to him, on September 7, in what he described as the 100th day of resistance, the aim is to surround the Prime Minister’s Office.
The call to escalate the protest was made publicly during the rally, inviting citizens to take part in the announced action.
Political confrontation and pressure on police
The language used at the protest shows that the confrontation is not remaining only political, but is also shifting toward law enforcement institutions, which are being placed at the center of criticism after the detentions carried out.
In the absence of a fuller public clarification of the circumstances of the detentions and the way the previous protest was managed, tensions between the sides remain open and visible on the streets of the capital.
