Shortly before September 16, when a decision is expected for Hashim Thaçi at the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, Prime Minister Edi Rama has chosen a strong political stance in favor of the former Kosovo prime minister. In a reaction on social media, Rama not only sided with Thaçi, but also targeted the judicial process itself, which he described as a “farce.”
Rama’s reaction on the eve of the decision
According to the post made public by Rama, he sees the case against Hashim Thaçi as a delegitimized process nearing its end. The reaction comes at a sensitive moment, just days before the decision expected to be delivered on September 16 in The Hague.
The Albanian prime minister used direct political language, calling for “freedom for the liberators” and presenting Thaçi as a figure who, in his view, cannot be deprived of freedom and truth.
He calls the process a “farce”
In the published message, Rama wrote that “the farce is in its final days,” wording that clearly signals his lack of trust in the process at the Specialist Chambers.
This political language goes beyond a statement of personal support and amounts to an open verbal attack on the way the trial is being conducted in The Hague, at least according to the interpretation given by the head of the Albanian government.
Open support for Thaçi
In the same reaction, Rama says that, in his view, Hashim Thaçi will triumph “with the force of his truth” and that the years in prison have only made that truth “greater.”
He also links this to support that, according to him, comes from “all Albanians,” giving the statement broad political and national weight, although this remains a thesis articulated by Rama himself.
Hashim Thaçi is being tried at the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, while a decision for him is expected on September 16. At this stage, Rama’s reaction places the debate even more firmly on the political plane, beyond the courtroom.
The Albanian prime minister’s statement comes as a clear public positioning on an issue that continues to divide opinion and burden the political climate in relation to Kosovo and international justice.
