Kosovo’s Assembly gave its backing to the new government, returning Albin Kurti to the head of the executive with 62 votes in favor and 8 against. The vote gives the majority led by Lëvizja Vetëvendosje a new governing mandate, while the focus announced by Kurti remains on security and well-being, in line with the position presented during the session.
Vote in the Assembly and Kurti’s return
Kosovo’s new government was approved in the Assembly with 62 votes in favor and 8 against. With this result, Albin Kurti officially returns to lead the executive.
After the vote, Kurti presented the government’s positions for the new mandate to lawmakers, but indicated that he would not deliver a new political exposé in the classical sense.
What he said about the new mandate
Kurti said this mandate will focus on strengthening security and improving citizens’ well-being. He presented this as the main pillar of the new government.
At the same time, he said there would be no new exposé, linking this to political developments in the country and Kosovo’s frequent electoral cycles.
Message on the Specialist Chambers
In his address, Kurti also focused on the process at the Specialist Chambers involving former KLA leaders, a topic with strong political and emotional weight in Kosovo.
According to his statement in the Assembly, the prosecution’s request is unfair and inconsistent, while his and the government’s position is that responsibility for genocide lies with Serbia.
Composition of the new government
In the cabinet lineup, Glauk Konjufca has been appointed first deputy prime minister and minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, while Donika Gërvalla is second deputy prime minister and minister of Justice. Fikrim Damka is third deputy prime minister for minority issues and cooperation.
Andin Hoti takes over the Ministry of Labour, Family and the Values of the Liberation War, Lulëzon Jagxhiu the Ministry of Public Administration and Digitalization, while Fitore Pacolli has been appointed minister of Environment and Spatial Planning.
The cabinet also includes Armend Muja as minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, as well as Mimoza Kusari as minister of Trade, Industry and European Integration.
The approval of the new government returns Kurti to the head of the executive at a politically charged moment when, beyond domestic priorities, the official discourse remains closely tied to developments in international justice.
The vote in the Assembly closes the cabinet formation phase, but immediately opens the real test for the new majority: how many of the declared priorities will be turned into concrete decision-making.
