March alongside the students

The lecturers joined the protesters in what was described as a peaceful march, with messages against violence toward students. Their presence moves the protest beyond the lecture halls and turns it into a broader signal of public pressure.

No further details were given about the route or turnout, but the lecturers taking to the streets strengthens the public weight of the demands being raised in the name of the students.

Argita and Jamarbër Malltezi also at the protest

Argita and Jamarbër Malltezi were also seen among the participants. Their presence adds a clear political dimension to the protest, in a climate where every development in the streets is being read beyond the university framework as well.

The gathering, although presented as support for students, is drawing actors and names that are pushing the debate toward the usual political confrontation.

Initiative announced by the union

The march had been announced by the University Employees Union. The move comes after a stronger stance by part of the academic staff over the way the situation involving the students is being handled.

A day earlier, hundreds of lecturers had signed a statement calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the establishment of a caretaker government. This places the initiative not only on the level of solidarity with students, but also within an open framework of political demands.

For now, the lecturers’ protest appears as another link in the chain of public pressure on the government, while the demands articulated by part of the university community have clearly gone beyond a reaction to violence.

It remains to be seen whether this support will expand further across universities or be used by political sides to reshape the debate according to their interests.
