The Democratic Party is trying to keep two tracks going at once: pressure in the streets and organization for local elections. In a meeting with working groups in Tirana, Sali Berisha signaled that protests against the government will not stop, while also calling for stronger activation of the party’s structures on the ground.

Political message from the blue headquarters

During the meeting at the Democratic Party headquarters with the working groups of Tirana County, Berisha spoke about continuing opposition action and organizing protests as part of the party’s strategy.

According to his statements, the opposition has no intention of withdrawing from street mobilization, which it presents as an instrument of pressure against Edi Rama’s government.

Protest as a political line, not a temporary episode

Berisha called for civic and youth engagement not to remain episodic, but to be turned into a lasting political force within the opposition’s action.

In essence, his message was that protest should not be seen simply as a reaction of the moment, but as an ongoing mechanism of political confrontation with the government.

PD also begins calculations for local elections

Alongside the protests, the head of the Democratic Party asked the party’s structures to begin preparations for the upcoming local elections.

The focus, according to him, should be on organization on the ground and strengthening the presence of Democrats across the country, indicating that the opposition is trying not to leave political action only at the level of protest rhetoric.

Aim for a united opposition front

The meeting also discussed the uniting of political and social forces against the government, an objective that Berisha has articulated as a need to create a common front.

Whether this initiative will produce real cooperation or remain at the declarative level remains to be seen, but the political signal from the Democratic Party is that it is seeking to broaden the confrontation beyond its own structures.

The meeting with the working groups of Tirana County comes at a time when the Democratic Party is trying to keep protest, internal organization and electoral calculation tied together.

For now, the line announced by Berisha is clear: protests should continue, while the party simultaneously enters election mode.
