Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess, will await the next stage of his legal battle at home after authorities replaced his pre-trial detention with house arrest. The decision comes as the 29-year-old has appealed a first-instance conviction on charges related to rape and domestic violence against a former partner.

From detention to home, under electronic monitoring

According to the source material, Høiby has been allowed to leave pre-trial detention and remain under house arrest pending further developments in the case.

Norwegian authorities, according to the reported version, have decided that the measure will be enforced through monitoring with an electronic ankle bracelet.

The first-instance conviction has been appealed

One month ago, the 29-year-old was convicted at first instance on two charges related to rape and domestic violence against a former partner.

The case, however, is not closed: he has appealed the ruling and court proceedings will continue.

Mother’s condition cited as the main reason

According to Norwegian media, one of the main reasons the court accepted the request for house arrest is linked to the health condition of Princess Mette-Marit.

The source says she recently underwent a successful lung transplant and is in the recovery phase.

Høiby’s statement about the family

According to Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, Høiby said that his family is going through a very difficult period and that everyone is staying close to his mother.

He is quoted as saying that being unable to support her during this phase has been extremely difficult for him.

For now, the house arrest measure does not change the substance of the criminal case, which remains under review following the appeal.

What is known so far is that the process will continue, while the first-instance ruling remains contested through legal channels.
