Sudden death in Vlora

Pogoni died in Vlora after a heart attack, bringing to a premature close a long period of activity between universities, sports structures and public engagement.

His loss comes at a time when his name remained active both in academic life and in organized sport.

Role at the university and academic background

He served as Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sport at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Tourism and Sport at Barleti University, while also being a member of the institution’s Academic Senate.

Holding the title of Doctor of Sciences and four university degrees, Pogoni had for years been involved in the fields of sports recreation, training methodology and physical education.

12 publications and involvement in international projects

During his career, Artan Pogoni was the author of 12 scientific publications and two university textbooks, building a well-established profile in sports sciences.

He had also taken part in international academic projects through the Tempus and Erasmus+ programs, linked to the exchange of experience and the modernization of approaches in sport.

From sports administration to debates on federations

Beyond the lecture halls, Pogoni also had a role in sports administration. He served as sports director at the Municipality of Tirana and in recent years was among the leading figures of Barleti Volley, where he also contributed as coach of the women’s team.

His name was also heard in public debates about the way Albanian sport functions, where he had raised concerns about the organization and management of sports federations.

With his passing, sport and academia lose a figure who for years moved between scientific research, teaching and sporting practice.

Artan Pogoni leaves behind a visible contribution to the education of younger generations and to critical discussion on the development of sport in Albania.
