The race for the new head of the prosecution body has entered its first formal phase. Adnan Xholi, a special prosecutor at SPAK, has submitted his request to the High Prosecutorial Council, becoming the first candidate to officially enter the process.

According to publicly released information, Xholi submitted the documentation to take part in the race for Prosecutor General.
With this step, he is the first name to formally express interest in leading the institution that heads prosecutions at the national level.
Olsian Cela’s mandate ends in December
The procedure was opened by the High Prosecutorial Council as the end of the seven-year mandate of current Prosecutor General Olsian Cela approaches. His term expires in December this year.
The selection of his successor is expected to go through the filters provided by law, in a process that is usually accompanied by high public attention because of the weight this post carries in the justice system.
Application deadline closes on August 1
According to the procedure notice, candidates have until August 1 at 00:00 to submit their documentation.
Only after this deadline closes is the High Prosecutorial Council expected to begin verifying and assessing the applications that have been filed.
A formal process, but one of high institutional importance
At this stage, this is only the application step and not a completed selection. The names entering the race will still have to go through the review procedures of the High Prosecutorial Council.
For this very reason, attention remains on how the process will be administered, how many candidates will enter the race, and what standard of transparency will be followed by the responsible institutions.
So far, Adnan Xholi is the first confirmed candidate in the race for the post of Prosecutor General.
The decisive point remains the closing of the application deadline and the verification phase, where it will be seen whether the race will have real competition or remain limited to a small number of names.
