Professor Albert Riska, one of the names associated for decades with the study and teaching of the Albanian language at the University of Elbasan, has died. The announcement was made public by the university itself, which expressed condolences to his family members, colleagues, students, and acquaintances.
A long career in Elbasan lecture halls
According to the University of Elbasan announcement, Albert Riska began his teaching activity at the institution in 1988 as an external lecturer. From 1991, he continued as a language lecturer, teaching subjects such as Dialectology and the History of the Albanian Language.
Over the years, his academic work extended to the training of students and contributions to linguistic studies, in a profile closely linked to Albanology and the history of Albanian.
Leadership duties and role in university life
During his career, Riska also held leadership duties within the university. He served as head of the Language Department, as well as in roles at the Faculty of Human Sciences.
Beyond the lecture hall, he was also part of the university’s scientific structures, including the editorial board of the institution’s scientific bulletin.
Research work in the field of linguistics
Albert Riska was also engaged in research and publications in the field of linguistics. His work includes articles and studies on the Albanian language, dialectology, etymology, and issues related to the history of the language.
Among his works is the book Albanian and Christianity, which examines links between the Albanian language, history, and the spread of Christianity in Illyrian territories, also drawing on materials collected during linguistic expeditions.

According to the same announcement, the burial ceremony will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 15:00.
