Negotiations for Rodri have reached a hotter stage. Barcelona have put a third official bid on the table for the Spanish midfielder, while Manchester City remain the club holding the final decision.
Third bid brings Barcelona closer to City’s asking price
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Barcelona’s latest proposal exceeds £60 million, or around €70 million. That puts the offer very close to the €70-80 million range that, according to reports in recent days, Manchester City would consider in order to open discussions over the player’s departure.
The previous two attempts did not convince the English club. The first offer was €45 million plus bonuses, while the second could rise to around €65 million if additional clauses were met, but that too was not accepted.
Rodri’s wishes add weight to the negotiations
One element making the case more delicate is the position of the player himself. According to reports, Rodri has given his approval to Barcelona, and Manchester City are aware of that stance.
That does not automatically complete the deal, but it gives Barcelona a strong card in the talks, especially now that the third offer is close to the figure being sought by the English side.
The midfielder’s physical condition remains under scrutiny
Rodri was seen on Friday at Manchester City’s training centre, while coach Enzo Maresca said the player looks well after a minor back procedure.
The midfielder is still in the recovery phase, and it remains unclear whether he will be ready for the Community Shield final against Arsenal, scheduled for Sunday.
City are also calculating the chain effect in the transfer market
If the transfer is approved, the English club aim to maximise the income from the sale of one of their most important midfield names. According to reports, part of the fee could be used to try to bring Enzo Fernández from Chelsea.
Chelsea are asking for around €140 million for the Argentine. At the same time, Reijnders’ departure to Al Qadsiah for around €60 million is expected to create more financial room in City’s next transfer market moves.
At this stage, Barcelona have made their strongest financial move and have brought the offer close to the threshold Manchester City are seeking.
The decision now remains with the English club, while the Rodri saga appears closer to a defining moment.
