Testimony still awaiting verification by the investigation has brought to light a possible revenge motive behind the failed attack in Elbasan. Poli Boriçi, 52, arrested as the suspected perpetrator of the assault on Ermir Kërtezi, told investigators that he acted because of an old conflict between the two families.
The suspected perpetrator’s claim
According to the statement given to investigators, Boriçi said he carried out the attack to avenge his brother, who, according to him, had been wounded by Kërtezi about 15 years ago.
The 52-year-old claimed that the consequences of that incident had been severe and that his brother had been left paralyzed. For now, this is his version, which is expected to be weighed by the prosecution against the evidence and circumstances of the case.
Two versions of the same conflict
It is precisely on the motive that the investigation appears to face two different accounts. On one side is the suspected perpetrator’s claim of an old hostility that had never truly ended.
On the other, Ermir Kërtezi has said that relations between them had normalized years ago. According to him, the two families lived near each other and had not had conflicts for nearly the past 15 years.

Boriçi was arrested after police intervention, according to the official version describing a rapid response at the scene. The failed attack in Elbasan caused strong concern, although there were no victims.
