A serious incident shook the village of Vidhisht in Roskovec on Friday morning, where a 58-year-old man was killed and his former wife was injured. While the initial version points to an attack with a hunting rifle by the family’s former son-in-law, relatives’ testimony raises serious questions over whether earlier threats had been treated seriously by the authorities.

What is known so far about the incident

According to publicly released information, a 35-year-old man is suspected of killing his 58-year-old former father-in-law with a hunting rifle and injuring his former mother-in-law. The injured woman is in hospital under doctors’ care.

After the incident, the suspect fled the scene by vehicle. According to the reported version, he also took his former wife with him, in circumstances described as a kidnapping, as well as the hunting rifle.

Relative’s testimony: threats and gunfire at the house

The victim’s brother said the family heard noise and shouting from inside the home, while the suspected attacker threatened to kill them all. According to him, the police were then notified.

He said the suspect was armed and left through the back of the house, taking the woman with him. When he entered the home, the relative said he found both of them lying on the ground.

Serious claims of previous incidents

The most serious part of this testimony is the allegation that the 35-year-old had previously had repeated problems with the law. According to the relative, he had been arrested three times and was then released.

He also said the suspect had been under house arrest because of threats. Relatives claim he had continually pressured his former wife, telling her that he would not let her live without him and that he would kill them all.

Questions over the institutional response

If these claims are confirmed, the case opens another serious debate over how signs of violence and repeated threats are handled, especially when they involve weapons and family conflict.

So far, there has been no public clarification on whether institutions had assessed the real level of risk to this family and what concrete measures had been taken to prevent the escalation.

Investigations are expected to clarify the full circumstances of the incident, as well as whether there was negligence in handling previous incidents that, according to relatives, had long been a cause for alarm.

The incident in Roskovec brings back into focus not only violence in family relationships, but also the responsibility of institutions when repeated threats remain without an effective response.
