Faced with new accusations articulated by SPAK against MP Belinda Balluku, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha chose to respond with a frontal political and personal attack. In his statement, he used harsh labels toward Balluku’s family and presented her as a figure with dominant influence in the government.
Berisha’s reaction to the new development
Asked to comment on SPAK’s new accusations against Belinda Balluku, Berisha said she is the “granddaughter of a serial killer.” The statement followed his usual rhetoric against the government and its officials, this time focused on one of the majority’s most important figures.
Personal attack through the figure of Beqir Balluku
Berisha tied his attack to the MP’s grandfather, Beqir Balluku, against whom he raised serious moral and historical accusations. According to the version he gave, her grandfather was responsible for the killing of many innocent people in Tirana, while he added that Belinda Balluku’s conduct is showing, in his view, continuity with that family legacy.
“To be real, when I told you that Balluku is the granddaughter of a serial killer, you took it as something exotic. Her grandfather was a vile killer, he killed innocent people in Tirana. She too is showing that she is her grandfather’s granddaughter,” Berisha said.
Attack also aimed at Rama and the balance inside the government
In the same statement, the PD leader did not stop his attack with Balluku alone. He claimed that the real balance of power in the executive is no longer what is presented publicly, but a reversed formula in which, according to him, Balluku carries more weight than the prime minister.
Berisha said that “this is the government today, it is not Rama-Balluku, but Balluku-Rama,” adding further that she “will drop the prime minister.” These remain political declarations by the opposition, made at the height of the clash with the government and against the backdrop of the issues being handled by SPAK.
Berisha’s statement once again shifts the debate away from the substance of the accusations under investigation toward harsh political language and personal attacks, a familiar practice in clashes between the opposition and the majority.
At the center of attention remains what the justice bodies have raised, while political rhetoric is once again trying to dominate the public narrative.
