Parliament gave the green light to the appointment of Ervin Demo as Interior Minister, with 83 votes in favor and only two votes against. The vote formalized a change stemming from the prime minister’s proposal and the President’s decree, while the majority passed one of the government’s most sensitive posts without difficulty.
83 votes in favor for the leadership of the Interior Ministry
Ervin Demo was voted in as Interior Minister in Parliament this Wednesday, receiving 83 votes in favor from majority MPs.
According to the result announced in the session, only two MPs voted against the appointment: Erald Kapri of Mundësia and Redi Muçi of the Together Movement.
The procedure was completed after the President’s decree
With the vote in Parliament, Demo officially takes charge of the Interior Ministry.
The move comes after President Bajram Begaj had decreed the name proposed by Prime Minister Edi Rama a day earlier.
Demo replaces Besfort Lamallari
At the head of the Interior Ministry, Ervin Demo succeeds Besfort Lamallari.
According to the official announcement, Lamallari has now joined the prime minister at the Prime Minister’s Office in the role of adviser.
A change passed without obstacles by the majority
The vote held in the early hours of the morning completed the parliamentary procedure for Demo’s appointment.
The balance of votes once again showed that the majority passes decision-making on key posts without difficulty, while opposition in the chamber remained minimal.
The new appointment at the Interior Ministry takes effect after an accelerated institutional process, in which the government’s proposal, the President’s decree and the majority’s vote were completed in a short time.
It remains to be seen what this replacement will bring to one of the cabinet’s most sensitive ministries.
