The Librazhd Municipal Council has given the green light to the proposal to merge the Municipality of Prrenjas with the Municipality of Librazhd, in a process being presented by the majority as part of Administrative-Territorial Reform 2.0. The decision came after public hearings in the administrative units, but the real weight of these consultations and their influence on the vote remains unclear.
Vote in the Municipal Council
According to the decision taken at Monday’s meeting, the Librazhd Municipal Council voted in favor of the draft project that provides for the merger of Prrenjas with Librazhd.
Of the council’s 21 members, 17 councillors were present in the hall. Of them, 16 voted in favor and one against, allowing the proposal backed by the majority to pass without difficulty.
Territorial reform returns to the table
The issue was treated as one of the main items on the agenda, within the framework of what is being called Administrative-Territorial Reform 2.0.
This is a process with a direct impact on local representation, services and local administration, and such decisions are therefore expected to bring political and institutional debate beyond the formal vote in the council.
After public hearings, the decision passes with a clear majority
According to the official version, the vote came after the conclusion of public hearings held in the administrative units of the Municipality of Librazhd.
However, from the data made public so far, there are no full details on the objections raised during these hearings, nor on how they were reflected in the final draft put to a vote.
With this vote, Librazhd officially lines up in favor of the merger with Prrenjas, while the opposition failed to influence the outcome of the meeting.
The decision pushes forward a process that affects the local map and local political balances, in a reform that remains sensitive for community representation.
