First meeting at the Foreign Ministry

The meeting between Hoxha and Wendt was held at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and marks the first official contact between the sides after the start of the new American ambassador’s mission in Albania.

There are no other public details from the conversation beyond what the minister chose to share afterward on social media.

What Hoxha said after the meeting

In his public reaction, Hoxha described the United States as one of Albania’s closest and most valued strategic partners.

According to the version made public by the minister, the relationship between the two countries is grounded in democratic values, NATO security partnership and the long-standing ties between the two peoples.

Focus on the economy and investment

One of the points Hoxha highlighted after the meeting was the expansion of economic and investment opportunities, alongside stronger cooperation on security and regional stability.

The statement remains at the political level and is not accompanied, at least so far, by announcements of concrete projects, timelines or measurable commitments in the economic field.

Transatlantic partnership and the EU objective

Hoxha also repeated the government’s official position that Albania’s membership in the European Union remains the country’s main national priority.

According to him, EU integration and a strong transatlantic partnership are closely linked, as part of the same strategic approach of Albanian foreign policy.

At the end of his message, the minister wished Ambassador Eric Wendt success in his diplomatic mission in Albania and expressed expectations for close cooperation between the two countries.

Beyond the usual ceremonial tone of such meetings, it remains to be seen whether these political signals will translate into concrete steps in the economy, investment and regional cooperation.
