In the vote held in the Assembly, Justina Shiroka Pula received 81 votes in favor and was elected President of the Republic of Kosovo.

The process also produced two invalid votes, while one vote went to Eliza Hoxha, who was also in the race for the post of president.

The session was held late at night

The election took place during a session held late in the evening, once again highlighting the political tension that had accompanied the process.

The voting result ended the political blockade that had dominated debate over the election of the head of state.

The same session also voted on the Specialized Chambers

The session was convened on an extraordinary basis and was not limited only to the vote for the president.

In the same parliamentary meeting, lawmakers also voted on the issue of Kosovo’s Specialized Chambers, a matter of particular institutional and political weight.

With this vote, Kosovo’s presidency passes under the leadership of Justina Shiroka Pula, while the institutions formally emerge from the deadlock that had accompanied this process.

The way the session unfolded and the fact that decision-making was pushed into the late hours are expected to remain part of the political debate over the functioning of institutions in Kosovo.
