Parliament meets today with four interpellations and a vote on the Territorial Reform commission

The session starts at 10:00

According to the official notice, Parliament’s meeting will take place today, October 15, at 10:00.

At the start, approval of the minutes of the October 8 session and procedural notices is expected, before moving on to the political and legal items on the agenda.

Four interpellations with ministers

The most sensitive part of the session is expected to be the block of interpellations, requested by opposition MPs.

The first interpellation is urgent and is addressed to Interior Minister Ervin Demo, at the request of a group of Democratic Party MPs.

After that, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi is scheduled to face two separate interpellations, one requested by MP Ermal Pacaj and the other by MP Tedi Blushi.

The fourth interpellation is with Finance Minister Petrit Malaj, also requested by MP Tedi Blushi.

Draft laws on the agenda

In addition to the political clash in the chamber, MPs also have the review of several draft laws on their agenda.

These include the ratification of the Council of Europe convention on the protection of the profession of lawyer, an agreement between Albania and North Macedonia on joint border crossing points, and amendments to the law on payment services.

The agenda also includes the draft law on the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing, amendments to the law on copyright, as well as the draft law on geographical indications for artisanal and industrial products.

Vote on the Administrative-Territorial Reform commission

One of the politically significant items remains the draft decision to establish the Special Parliamentary Commission for the second phase of the Administrative-Territorial Reform in the Republic of Albania.

This item is expected to test not only relations between the majority and the opposition, but also the way a reform that has produced continuous debate over local representation and the political interests surrounding it is being pushed forward.

At the end of the agenda, discussions are also scheduled on issues outside the announced agenda.

Today’s session is expected to serve as a political test for the cabinet in relation to the opposition’s demands, but also for the way Parliament is handling decisions with a broader institutional impact.
