The government has allocated 740.08 million lek from the state reserve fund to reward 2,750 employees of the State Police, in a decision taken immediately after the political signal given by Prime Minister Edi Rama. According to the decision, the money is justified by the officers’ increased engagement during the protests in Tirana.

The decision was sealed at the government meeting
The decision was approved at the Council of Ministers meeting on October 19, 2026, and enters into force immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette.
The move comes after the prime minister had earlier in the day announced the reward for police officers engaged in managing the protests, turning the financial measure into a decision with clear political weight, not only an administrative one.
How much each officer will receive
The approved document provides for a financial bonus of 269,120 lek for each of the 2,750 State Police employees.
In total, the fund amounts to 740,080,000 lek and will be added to the budget of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, under the current expenditures item of the budget program “State Police.”
The money comes from the state reserve fund
According to the official decision, the financial effect will be covered by the reserve fund of the 2026 state budget.
The use of the reserve fund for this purpose highlights the way the government has chosen to financially cover costs related to the management of the protests, by transferring millions of lek to the State Police program.
The police will draw up the list of beneficiaries
The General Directorate of the State Police will draft the nominal list of beneficiaries, based on supporting documentation, and will carry out the procedures for granting the bonus.
The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General Directorate of the State Police have been tasked with implementing the decision.
According to the official version, the bonus is linked to ensuring public order and security during the protests in the capital.
The decision signed by the prime minister formalizes the transfer of 740.08 million lek from the reserve fund to the State Police budget.
