The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania issued a public message after the protests in Tirana, linking the tensions of recent days to a deeper problem: according to the Chamber, business concerns over corruption, monopolies and the investment climate have been left without an adequate response from institutions.

Reaction after the protests and call to reduce tensions
In its statement, the Chamber expressed concern over the latest developments and called for coordinated engagement by institutions to guarantee public safety, protect people and property, and prevent further escalation.
According to this position, all actors should reject violence and contribute to creating the conditions for dialogue, so that legitimate concerns can be addressed through democratic mechanisms.
Business says concerns have been ignored
Beyond the immediate situation, the Chamber places emphasis on its long-standing relationship with public institutions. It recalls that for years it has submitted recommendations and proposals on draft laws, by-laws and regulatory measures that directly affect the business community.
However, according to the statement, a large part of these concerns and recommendations have not received due attention. This is a strong critical signal about the way public policies are built, especially when consultation with business is often presented as a formality rather than a real process.
Business index lists the main problems
The Chamber also refers to the AmCham Business Index 2025–2026, where the report identifies corruption, monopolies, unfair competition, bureaucracy and the informal economy as the main problems.
In the same assessment, according to the Chamber, a significant deterioration in perceptions of the business climate was also found. The message emerging from this index is that the current uncertainty is not appearing in a vacuum, but on ground where complaints about market distortions and a lack of equality in the rules have long been voiced.
Reports of damage and a sense of being unprotected
According to reports the Chamber says it has received from its members, many businesses suffered damage and disruption to their activity during the recent situation, while feeling unprotected by the responsible institutions.
The statement warns that prolonged instability could jeopardize business continuity and hit the wider economy. Likewise, according to this position, uncertainty over the protection of people and property could damage the confidence of domestic and foreign investors.
Call to the government and institutions
In the end, the American Chamber calls on the government, responsible institutions and the actors involved to cooperate to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
According to the statement, immediate, coordinated and responsible action is needed to reduce tensions, protect people and property, and guarantee the continuity of economic activity. The political message is clear: when institutions fail to address complaints about corruption, monopolies and insecurity, the cost does not remain only with business, but extends to public trust and the economy as a whole.
The American Chamber’s statement comes as direct criticism of the failure to address problems that the business community says it has been raising for a long time.
At its core, its message is not limited to a call for calm, but raises the most difficult question for institutions: why alarms over corruption, monopolies and distorted competition continue to remain without a convincing solution.
