Erion Veliaj’s transfer to pre-trial detention in Fier is being accompanied by serious questions over the procedure and the conditions of his detention. Lawyer Plarent Ndreca claims that the defense has not been given any official document regarding the move, and has also raised concerns that Veliaj may have been placed in an isolation cell.

Lawyer: the order justifying the transfer is missing
In a television appearance, Plarent Ndreca said that the defense had not been provided with any document on the basis of which Erion Veliaj was transferred to Fier.
According to the lawyer, this situation raises strong doubts about a lack of transparency by the authorities and could constitute a violation of the detainee’s rights, as long as the reasons and legal basis for the transfer have not been communicated to the defense.
Concerns over placement in isolation
Ndreca said he had received information according to which Veliaj had been placed in an isolation cell.
He claimed it was a room without windows and without normal conditions for a pre-trial detainee, but clarified that at that moment he had not been able to personally confirm that information.
Verification visit to Fier prison
During the interview, the lawyer said he was heading to the Fier detention facility to verify firsthand the conditions in which Veliaj was being held.
According to his account, the purpose was to meet with his client and obtain a clear picture of how prison authorities had carried out the transfer.
The case again opens debate over prison standards
The claims raised by the defense bring renewed attention to how transfer decisions are made in the penitentiary system and how accessible information is for the interested parties.
In the absence of an official response on the reasons for the transfer and the specific conditions of detention, the institutions’ version remains unclear, while concerns over respect for basic rights remain unresolved.
So far, the claims about an isolation cell and the lack of normal conditions have been raised by Veliaj’s lawyer and do not appear to have been officially confirmed.
It is precisely the lack of publicly disclosed documentation and the institutional silence that make this transfer even more controversial.
