Clash with officer in Sarandë, Mihal Velço’s version: They insulted me while I was riding a motorbike

The incident overnight in Neighborhood No. 3

According to the published information, the incident happened at around 00:15 in Neighborhood No. 3 of Sarandë. The officer involved in the conflict was Mihal Velço, a crime officer at the Sarandë Police Commissariat.

At this stage, there is still no full picture of the episodes that led to the physical confrontation, while the authorities have not made public a detailed official version of the exact sequence of events.

What officer Mihal Velço claims

Although he has not given a full public statement, in a communication with journalist Entjola Budo, Velço claimed that he was riding a motorbike when he heard a group of unknown people swear at and insult him.

According to him, he got off the motorbike and then became involved in a physical confrontation with them. Velço said he did not know any of the people involved and that the rest of the circumstances are a matter for the investigation.

Also according to his version, security cameras in the area have been seized and he did not suffer serious injuries because the conflict, as he himself describes it, was momentary and ended quickly when those involved left.

Police checks until the early morning hours

After the report of the incident, large numbers of police officers carried out checks in different areas of Sarandë until the early morning hours.

According to the published information, homes, bars and public spaces were checked, while several people were escorted and questioned. For the moment, it has not been announced whether these actions led to any concrete identification of the people suspected of taking part in the conflict.

Camera footage expected to clarify the sequence of events

Investigators have seized security camera footage from the area in an effort to identify the people involved and reconstruct the incident.

Until the investigation results are released, every version of the incident remains partial. For an incident involving a police officer himself, the minimum public expectation is fuller transparency and verifiable clarification, not only versions circulated informally.

Investigative work, according to the information available so far, is still continuing.

It remains to be seen whether the seized footage and police actions will provide a clearer explanation of what really happened in Sarandë during the night hours.
