Government announces 701 million lek more for the Police, funding passed through a Normative Act

The minister’s announcement on the additional fund

Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari said the additional financing will pass through the 2026 Budget Normative Act. According to him, this means 701 million lek more for the State Police.

In essence, the government is presenting this as a budget intervention to strengthen police capacities, but the public announcement so far remains at the level of a statement and is not backed by a detailed spending table.

Where the money is expected to go

According to the minister, the additional funds will be used for greater support for the salaries of State Police employees, investments in technology, motivation for elite structures, and accelerating modernization.

However, the published announcement still does not show how much money specifically will go to salaries, how much to technology, and how much to special structures. This remains a key point for transparency in the use of public money.

The rhetoric of modernization and European standards

In his message, Lamallari presented the increase in funding as a step toward a more modern police force in line with the best European standards. He also linked it to the promise of a safer Albania.

But beyond the usual modernization slogan, the announcement is not accompanied by measurable indicators, timelines or concrete objectives that would allow public verification of this promise.

What the official version says

According to the minister, the increase in funding is part of the government’s commitment to guarantee a State Police force that is more capable, more modern and better equipped to face security challenges.

Also according to the official version, this funding is intended to serve the protection of life, property and public order. So far, however, the government has not made public the full financial documentation that would clarify how this increase in funds will be implemented in practice.

The 701 million lek increase for the State Police is, for the moment, a political announcement based on the minister’s communication. What remains to be seen is transparency over the actual use of this fund and the results it will produce on the ground.

aktualitet.al will follow the publication of the details of the 2026 Budget Normative Act to verify how this public money will be specifically distributed.
