Albania is holding its 9th Intergovernmental Conference with the European Union in Brussels today, another stage in the accession negotiation process. According to the official agenda, the meeting is expected to formalize the closure of three chapters, while the government presents the development as proof of the country’s progress on its path toward the EU.

The meeting in Brussels and the official agenda
Prime Minister Edi Rama, together with the official Albanian delegation, is traveling to Brussels to take part in the conference linked to the European integration process.
According to the announced schedule, the Albania-European Union Intergovernmental Conference begins at 19:00, while a joint press conference is scheduled for 20:00.
Three chapters expected to close
According to the official version, during this conference the closure of negotiations on three chapters is expected to be formalized: Chapter 25 on Science and Research, Chapter 26 on Education and Culture, as well as Chapter 31 on Foreign Relations.
The closure of the chapters at this stage is seen as an important procedural step in the framework of the talks, although the real pace and depth of reforms are measured more broadly than the day’s political messaging.
Government speaks of progress, but the process remains to be proven against standards
In the official statement, this development is presented as evidence of Albania’s steady progress in meeting the criteria and standards for membership in the European Union.
However, beyond the optimistic statements, the integration process remains tied to the concrete assessment of reforms and to the standards continuously required by the EU.
More details are expected after the meeting in Brussels on the further course of the negotiations and the steps that will follow for Albania in this process.
