An agreement announced earlier within the Democratic League of Kosovo appears to have fallen apart within a few hours. LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku said that six party MPs will not vote for Bekim Sejdiu for President of Kosovo, turning the process into another episode of the political crisis now openly emerging in the opposition camp.
The Presidency’s decision met resistance in the Parliamentary Group
According to Abdixhiku’s statement after the Parliamentary Group meeting, the MPs in question did not agree to respect the decision of the LDK Presidency, which earlier in the day had approved the political agreement and backed the nomination of Bekim Sejdiu for the post of President.
This development shows that formal approval in the party’s leadership structures did not guarantee political discipline in the parliamentary group, leaving unclear the party’s ability to maintain a unified position in such a sensitive vote.
Abdixhiku warns of political consequences
According to the LDK leader, the refusal by the six MPs risks producing consequences for the country and could push Kosovo toward new elections.
Abdixhiku described this stance as political damage, arguing that failure to respect the Presidency’s decision is undermining the agreement reached and pushing the process into deadlock.
Who are the MPs opposing the vote
The names mentioned by Abdixhiku are Avdullah Hoti, Hykmete Bajrami, Janina Ymeri, Armend Zemaj, Kujtim Shala and Arben Gashi.
Going public with the names makes the split within the LDK even more visible, at a moment when the party is facing not only negotiations over the President, but also a test of its leadership’s authority.
